She was found today, next to a corpse in Turjua, a two-month old baby girl with severe burns, a chest injury and and broken ribs.

She was brought to the Project Medishare/UM Global Institute medical trauma team to be treated. After assessing  her condition, doctors feel her injuries are so severe that she is being flown into Florida tonight for further intensive medical treatment.

Project Medishare/UM Global Institute Founder Dr. Barth Green and former Miami Heat player Alonzo Mourning will be accompanying the child back to Ft. Lauderdale tonight.

In the aftermath of the earthquake, more of Haiti’s children are finding themselves without parents.

“Before this there were not enough orphanages and too many orphans,” Dr. Green said on CNN, “and now the number of orphans tripled.”

Dr. Green has been in Haiti working with the trauma units Project Medishare/UM Global Institute has placed at UN Headquarters. Mourning arrived shortly after to volunteer his time there with Project Medishare/UM Global Institute.

Mourning is also raising money for Project Medishare through the Athletes Relief Fund for Haiti.
