EARTHQUAKE UPDATE: Project Medishare/UM Global Institute working from United Nations Compound at the Port-au-Prince airport

  |   Earthquake Response

By Jennifer Browning

Project Medishare/UM Global Institute is coordinating medical relief efforts and working closely hand in hand with Haiti Ministry of Health and Partners in Health. The partnering organizations are setting up a makeshift headquarters and office at the Hotel Villa Creole in Pétionville to better organize and coordinate efforts.

Thanks to a very generous donation from Hank Asher, Project Medishare/UM Global Institute was able to supply 45 satellite phones to President Preval for government and Ministry of Health use. They have also supplied satellite phones to Partners in Health and other NGO’s.

On the ground, Project Medishare/UM Global Institute are currently rotating two groups now operating out of the United Nations Compound at the airport. The group reported that they weren’t able to move groups to the General Hospital or Hospital Universitaire de la Paix . From the airport the medical trauma teams are able to triage and fly the most severe cases to Miami for surgery and treatment.
