Earthquake Update: Project Medishare/University of Miami trauma team on the ground and working

  |   Earthquake Response

By Jennifer Browning

National Public Radio reported this evening that a medical trauma team from University of Miami is set up in an air hangar at the Port-au-Prince airport working with the United Nations.

The reporter defined the group as “a shining light in Haiti now” and said many severe trauma cases have been diverted to the University of Miami trauma team.

We haven’t heard directly from Project Medishare on the ground in Haiti but we do know that the University of Miami Miller School of medicine is partnered with Project Medishare’s mobile trauma unit.

Earlier today 11 emergency medical professionals flew to Haiti as part of Project Medishare’s medical trauma team. While the trauma team works form the Port-au-Prince airport, they are assessing the needs so the team can develop and accurate response plan. As reports come in telling of the devastation, we know the needs for the people of this tragedy are many, and these needs will need to be tended to long-term.

Please support Project Medishare in our task to help in Haiti. We are asking supporters of Haiti to donate to the Earthquake Relief Fund so that as our organization’s response plan develops we will be able to act quickly.

It doesn’t matter what amount you can give–$5, $10, $25, $50 or more. Every little bit counts, and every little bit will be used towards alieviating the pain of those affected by this horrible tragedy.Click here to donate to Project Medishare’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

Those who prefer to send a check to Project Medishare’s Earthquake Relief Fund, may send it to the following address:

Project Medishare,
8260 NE 2nd Ave.

We will continue to give updates as we receive them. Thank you to all who have donated today. Please forward this information to those who you think may want to help.
