Medical volunteers and Haitians alike find a win-win situation when it comes to working together for community health in Haiti. Molly Slothower reflects this in her piece Future Doctors Volunteering in Haiti Gain Medical and Life Experience.

Slothower speaks to students who have recently volunteered in Haiti as well as those who have committed themselves to being lifelong partners with Project Medishare in making progress with community-based healthcare in Haiti.

Pointing to the key of Project Medishare’s success with the medical student volunteer program, Slothower explains how Project Medishare uses the short-term medical student volunteers to collaborate with local medical personnel. By lending extra hands and medical expertise to the ongoing work of Medishare’s Haitian doctors and health professionals, the students compliment the work of Project Medishare’s permanent staff in the central plateau.
