Medical Volunteers Needed

  |   Uncategorized

Thanks to the incredible support from the Medical Community, since 2010 we have been able to continue our volunteer program at Hospital Bernard Mevs having over 9,000 volunteers contribute their time in the past 5 years. And we continue to send teams of medical volunteers every Saturday to Haiti!

We are seeking Medical volunteers willing to work at Hospital Bernard Mevs in Port-au-Prince (currently, the best trauma hospital in Haiti) and are especially in need of volunteers that can prepare short training classes for our Haitian medical staff at the hospital. The main training areas are: ICU, Rehabilitation medicine and ER (with the ER work week being half training and half working shifts).

We currently have reserved seats on American Airlines leaving from MIA every Saturday on their last flight to PAP (around noon) and returning to MIA the following Saturday on the first flight (arriving at MIA at around 11 am). Our ideal weekly team is formed by 3-4 MDs and 10-15 RNs. We could really use your help to continue this great effort in providing top health care and training for the Haitian people!

In order to support our operations, we request that the volunteers help us fund-raise a minimum of $800 to cover the cost of the deployment with the volunteers arranging their own travel arrangements to Miami. Once in Miami, we will provide air transportation to and from Port-au-Prince, housing and meals.

If you are interested in returning to Haiti or require additional information, please contact our logistic coordinator, Deborah Etienne, at detienne@med.miami.edu, or call 305-243-6693. You can reserve your spot on the team without any obligations. You can always cancel your reservation at any time if your plans change for any reason.

We are also exploring the possibility of organizing medical trips to our Community Clinic in the Central Plateau (about 2 hours outside of Port-au-Prince) beginning the first quarter of 2016. If you are interested in this option, please let us know.

THANK YOU!
